Will Shaner Wins Gold, Sets Record

Team USA's Will Shaner won the men's 10M Air Rifle event in the Toyko Olympics on Sunday, setting a record and winning the United States' first event gold medal in the process.

The 20-year-old Kentucky native claimed the second gold medal for this US in the Toyko Olympics.

Shaner won Sunday's event at the ASAKA Shooting Range with a final score of 251.6, besting China's Sheng Lihao (16) by 0.7. China's Yang Haoran won the bronze medal in the event, finishing 0.4 behind Sheng.

Shaner recently placed second in the NCAA Air Rifle individual Championship, and also helped lead Kentucky to back-to-back team titles. Shaner's Kentucky teammate, Lucas Kozeniesky finished sixth in Japan with a score of 165.
