SCOTUS to Hear NY Concealed Carry Case

Expected by mid-year 2022, the Supreme Court's ruling in the New York State Rifle & Pistol Association v. Bruen could declare a New York state restriction on carrying concealed handguns unconstitutional. The stakes are high for Second Amendment advocates as such a ruling could loosen strict gun regulations in many parts of the country.

The court is set to hear oral arguments on November 3, 2021.

New York, after an increase in homicides, instituted a handgun permitting system in 1911. The system was amended in 1913 to address concealed carry handguns.

For more than 100 years, a lawful citizen seeking to carry a concealed handgun in New York State, has been required to file a permit application demonstrating that they have what the state terms "proper cause."
