Springfield Armory continues to innovate with the Echelon series, and Mike Humphries joins Guns & Gear’s Kevin “KJ” Jarnagin from SHOT Show 2026 to check out the new Echelon 4.0FC. Essentially, the 4.0FC blends full-size control and capacity with a compact slide assembly. Guns & Gear’s Chris Cerino - already a fan of the full-size Echelon - hits the range to check out the new model, and he became an immediate fan.
Guns & Gear from SHOT Show 2026 is presented by Palmetto State Armory.
Springfield Armory's Echelon represented a major departure for the company — their first truly modular, duty-size pistol with a serialized fire control chassis. The 40FC variant brings .40 S&W to the platform for shooters who want more energy per round than 9mm in a modern, full-featured duty gun.
The Echelon features Springfield's Central Operating Group (COG) — a removable, serialized chassis that can swap between grip modules. The optics mounting system uses a direct-mount multi-pattern interface that accepts popular red dot footprints without adapter plates. Combined with ambidextrous controls, aggressive grip texturing, and a solid factory trigger, the Echelon is Springfield's answer to the SIG P320 and GLOCK Gen 5 MOS.
Watch the full first look above for our hands-on impressions, specs, and how the .40 S&W Echelon variant performs on the range.
