Everyday Carry is more than just putting a gun down the front of your pants (remember Plaxico Burress?). When carrying a pistol, you want to be sure you not only have the proper holster for that weapon as well as a sturdy belt to support all that extra weight. If you’ve ever tried to EDC on a flimsy belt, you know that it’s uncomfortable and irritating to readjust all day long. You aren’t very “Gray Man” when you’re always adjusting your pants, right? Over the years I’ve tried several styles of belts and ultimately landed on my first choice, the Nexbelt Supreme Black Camo EDC:
When I got my first Nexbelt, I was looking to try out the ratcheting-style buckles that I had seen some of my tactical buddies running. There were quite a few brands out there, but I landed on Nexbelt for two reasons: their selection of styles and their buckle system. I’m a big fan of the black camo pattern and use it on everything. Seeing that was an instant draw, but the buckle sealed the deal. Once you cut the 1.5” strap to the proper length (PRO TIP: It's the Holiday Season. Leave yourself an extra inch or two), there are three screws that secure it to the buckle and BAM! You’re ready to rock and roll. A simple release button pops the pressure after a big meal, or you can make micro-adjustments to find that perfect fit without having to worry about a droopy belt when adding your pistol. They aren’t cheap, but they will last for years.
For those of you who may be looking for something a little more traditional, I present the “Gun Belt 01” from 1791 Gunleather. If you have ever purchased anything from this company, you already know the quality leather artisans they have in the shop making their products. They offer 4 different styles/ colors from formal black to more casual “Vintage.” With traditional buckles, this design has worked for centuries and will continue to do so.
Crossbreed Holsters is well known for their great holsters, but they also carry some very nice and very reasonably priced options like the Minimalist Nylon Belt. This belt isn’t as sturdy as the first two options, but sometimes all you need is something to keep the pocket pistol in place and not your full loadout. Just cut to your size, lock down the slide buckle and add EDC. Simple. Lightweight. Effective.
Another well-known brand that we just can’t forget is Safariland. Known for their duty and competition belts, they also offer a couple different EDC belts (including their own collaboration with Nexbelt). The difference with this Garrison Belt is it is made for “full figured” shooters. Not only do measurements start at 46” and go all the way 80” but this belt is 1.75” wide instead of the standard 1.5”. This gives even more support if you’re one of those 5” 1911/ Colt Anaconda concealed carry people. If you’re packing more than just a pistol, this belt may be just what you’re looking for.
The idea of a “Buckleless” gun belt piqued my interest the first time I heard about it. It seemed like a great concept and perfect for those summer days when you can’t carry your FAL concealed. How does it “buckle?” Traditional hook and loop fastener keeps the belt secure without having a buckle to worry about. Think internal belt if you’ve ever worn a duty or competition belt. With several lengths available you can be sure you can find the right Falcon for you. Right now, you can even get a free universal mag carrier just for ordering the belt!
