School's Out! You've Earned a Break!

With school's shutting down across the country for summer break, it's time to think about what to do with the kids. Well, I think it's time you treated yourself to a break and enroll them in a gun-centric camp to inspire adventure and responsibility. Here are a few camps to get you excited for a kid break.

Civilian Marksmanship Program: Three-Position Junior Rifle Camp
This camp developed a gold medalist. Olympic gold medalist, Ginny Thrasher, attended the CMP National Match Junior Camp.

Check with your local range, and perhaps they'll have a summer program for the youngsters. Find out more, CLICK HERE

NRA Advanced Junior Smallbore Rifle Camp
This camp is for the serious kids that crave competition. The NRA Advanced Junior Smallbore Rifle Camp is an intense, challenging, competitive, and demanding outdoor training opportunity for advanced athletes who attend matches to compete, not just shoot.

Check the dates on this one though. It is near the tail end of summer so it may step on some school openings. However, shooting guns in Vermont in August doesn’t seem like a bad thing.

These camps are great options for parents, looking for a way to advance skill and responsibility. How about hosting your own mini-camps for the kids? It is otherwise known as taking your kids to the range. Instead of getting all the fun solely focus on their shooting skill. Keep sessions short and involve them in the entire process. From building out the range bag to selecting ammo and guns, they will shoot, kids, begin to get an understanding as to why we love this sport. Plus, it's another excellent way to unplug from the indoors. ~ KJ

Kevin Jarnagin
Kevin Jarnagin (KJ) hails from Oklahoma but quickly established Louisiana roots after joining the Gun Talk team. KJ grew up as a big game hunter and often finds himself in a bass boat. Whether it’s making his way to British Columbia for elk or training with pistols, Jarnagin always seems to find a gun in his hands and adventure on his mind.
