A Glimpse Behind the LIVE
The annual SHOT Show is in the books. If you followed along with the Gun Talk Media crew, you witnessed some great times, visiting with some of the firearms industry’s leaders. Our LIVE coverage was a time for our viewers to chime in immediately, and a couple lucky viewers walked away with some great prizes. Aside from our LIVE coverage, what did the Gun Talk crew find interesting on the show floor?
Bishop 458 SOCOM (Lever Action)
Sometimes, we don’t even have to leave the booth to find new guns. If you don’t know Bishop Ammunition & Firearms, it’s about time we start paying attention. They’ve got a new lever-action 458 SOCOM coming out that is killer. It’s a beautiful piece of work that at first glance looks like any other lever-action rifle, but upon further inspection the 458 SOCOM is technologically more advanced than other lever guns. The gun is so new that it isn’t listed on their website, but they’re experts in creating bigger and badder guns. Visit Bishop HERE.
It’s difficult to get excited about a muzzleloader. However, if it is a legit 300-yard, tack-driving muzzleloader, then I’ll listen. While at the SHOT Show range day, I hit a target the size of a pie plate at 270 yards. Trust me, it isn’t the skill of the shooter. The bolt-action design and overall construction make this gun an absolute pleasure to shoot. The gun features a Nitride-treated Bergara barrel, adjustable trigger, and VariFlame rifle primer adapter to ignite up to 140 grains of Blackhorn 209. The comfort distance I shoot my muzzleloader at now is a mere 150 yards. If I can double that range with the Paramount, I’ll be switching soon. Visit CVA HERE.
Perhaps, the talk of the show was the Gerber booth. It’s not because they developed a knife that deployed via an app, but because they had a tattoo parlor set up in their booth. People clamored to line up for free ink. I thought it was pretty edgy, but from a company that built its business living on the edge, I’d expect nothing less. I did notice a big uptick in cleaver-style blades across all knife manufacturers. For more information on those visit Gerber HERE.
Propper Carbon Carry Belt
When David Workman of Propper pulled me aside to show me a belt, I’m sure he felt my hesitation. SHOT Show is about new gear, new guns and new innovations. I’d never put belts into those categories. Boy was I wrong. The new Carbon Carry belt is made of old conveyor belt material. It doesn’t wear off or fade, which means it’s going to last a lifetime. This is one of those products I was excited to stumble upon while in Vegas. Visit Propper HERE.
Butler Creek ASAP
We look for tools to make a shooter’s job easier. The Butler Creek ASAP fits the bill. The automatic, yes automatic, magazine loader fills AR15 magazines in a jiff. It powers with A/C or batteries and tops off a 30-round magazine in 45 seconds. Where was this thing during a weeklong carbine course at Gunsite? Just dump the bullets in and watch it work without sacrificing thumb tissue. Visit Butler Creek HERE.
Look for more in the upcoming weeks as I look back at SHOT 2019 and what you can expect to see moving forward. ~ KJ
Kevin Jarnagin (KJ) hails from Oklahoma, but quickly established Louisiana roots after joining the Gun Talk team. KJ grew up as a big game hunter, and knows his way around a bass boat. Whether it’s making his way to British Columbia for elk or training with pistols, Jarnagin always seems to find a gun in his hands and adventure on his mind.
