Five Deals for Your Build

The things you hear in a gun store often pique the interest. The other day, I got a frantic call letting me know a gentleman brought in some custom builds for consignment. They wouldn’t last long. Upon arrival, I found the guns in mint condition and only used for a training course the gent took. Well, it just so happens that I’ll be taking an AR course soon. So, why not take this guy’s lead and build an AR just for the course? The first step to a build is finding the right deal. Here are five web deals that help ease the cost of a custom build.

Keep in Mind: Price and stock could change after publish date, and we may make money from these links.

Lower Receiver
The lower receiver of the AR-15 is the base. Finding a great lower receiver wasn’t difficult. I slipped over to Brownell’s and picked up the Aero Precision AR-15 Lower Receiver. It’s priced extremely competitively at $46.99. Why not pick up a couple? BUY here.

If you want to customize a gun, what’s the first things you do? Drop an aftermarket trigger in it. The Rise Armament Super Sport Trigger, $84.99, gives a crisp, custom feel to any build. BUY here.

Bolt Carrier Group (BCG)
Always a key component to any AR build is the BCG. Machined in different alloys and metals, the BCG I want is lightweight, durable and resists corrosion. The Faxon Firearms AR-15 Bolt Carrier Complete fits the build. The Faxon BCGs stays strong through hard times, like a full, four-day class. BUY here.

Upper Receiver
This is another critical cog that needs to be in place. Instead of purchasing a stripped upper receiver, I found it more cost effective to purchase the Aero Precision Assembled Upper Receiver. It comes with port door and forward assist already assembled—one less step that I would have to do. BUY here. As an option for those looking to purchase the entire upper group, check out the Geissele Automatic URGI. It’s a bit expensive but includes everything needed to complete the upper build.

Lower Build Kit
Instead of searching for springs, buffer tubes or pistol grips separately, get it all in one. The PSA Shockwave Lower Build Kit delivers everything needed to complete the lower. Get rid of the trigger since we have a Rise Armament headed this way. Or…hold onto it since you purchased an additional lower. BUY here.

A personal build allows us to pick what we want on the gun. Thank goodness, we have plenty of deals to sift through. I’d hate to see how much a custom build would run at retail. ~ KJ

Kevin Jarnagin
Kevin Jarnagin (KJ) hails from Oklahoma, but quickly established Louisiana roots after joining the Gun Talk team. KJ grew up as a big game hunter, and knows his way around a bass boat. Whether it’s making his way to British Columbia for elk or training with pistols, Jarnagin always seems to find a gun in his hands and adventure on his mind.
