If you are serious about personal defense, you really and truly need to attend a good shooting school. Gunsite, in Arizona, and Thunder Ranch, in Oregon, are two of the best. While the physical facilities are great, it's really the people and the quality of the instruction that make them world class. I've been to both, and can recommend them without qualification.

The NSSF also has many great programs, from Scholastic Clays to the Step Outside program to educational efforts for gun dealers such as "Don't Lie for the Other Guy."
